Public Safety
Residents have a right to be and feel safe.
As the former Chair of the Fairfax Police Civilian Review Panel, Jimmy has worked to build trust between the FCPD and the community for years. Jimmy recognizes and respects the strain on police officers, while also believing that all county residents, especially residents of color, have a right to feel that they can trust the officers sworn to protect them.
Jimmy knows the importance of building a public safety infrastructure that prioritizes transparency and accountability, while also ensuring that our public safety officials are prepared to respond to emergencies around the County. Police officers, firefighters, EMTs, first responders, and mental health professionals must have the resources to do their jobs and earn a living. As Supervisor, Jimmy will continue to promote trust, local partnerships, and a community-focused, holistic approach to improve public safety and ensure that Fairfax County remains the safest jurisdiction of its size in the country.
Jimmy further supports efforts to take a comprehensive and interconnected approach to long-term public safety, with the understanding that police officers are not always the most appropriate responder to solve every problem. He supports the Co-Responder Pilot Program to respond to mental health calls with dedicated mental health professionals, as well as diversion and addiction treatment programs.
Jimmy believes that schools and parks are integral to our community, and should be the safest places for our residents. Jimmy is in support of taking effective steps to eradicate gun violence in the County. These tactics include promoting ordinances that reduce the presence of guns in public places, requiring guns to be stored properly, and promoting gun buyback programs.
